Notch Trail hike in Badlands National Park
May 2008

Sign at the beginning of the trail says: "Notch Trail: One mile round trip. Here's adventure in rough country: a ladder to climb, narrow ledges, and a stunning view of the White River beyond the cliff at the Notch. Supervise children on this hike; there are steep dropoffs. Rough terrain. Wear sturdy boots."

View along the trail

The trail moves away from the edge and one winds through these rocks.
[There is a path in the middle of the image through a bunch of tall rock sections.]

Notch Trail end view

[Multiple photos stitched together showing the vista view at the end of the Notch trail.]

This is a closer view of the center of the prior photo. (The rock outcropping, Cliff Shelf, and the path leading to it are part of the Cliff Shelf trail.)
[A tall light-brown rock outcropping rises from the relatively flat green land around it. There is a light-colored trail through the green groundcover.]
