Notch Trail hike in Badlands National Park
May 2008
Sign at the beginning of the trail says: "Notch Trail: One mile round trip. Here's adventure in rough country: a ladder to climb, narrow ledges, and a stunning view of the White River beyond the cliff at the Notch. Supervise children on this hike; there are steep dropoffs. Rough terrain. Wear sturdy boots."
View along the trail
The ladder one climbs as part of the trail.
Another view of the ladder which is in the center of the photo. (There is a person at the top of the ladder and one standing on the ridge to the left of the ladder.)
Looking back at valley I hiked. (Ladder is at center left edge of photo.)
Trail marker along the ledge
Another view of trail markers (Stay to the right of the markers for obvious reasons.)
The trail moves away from the edge and one winds through these rocks.
Notch Trail end view
(Image seams touched up by F. J. Garver)
This is a closer view of the center of the prior photo. (The rock outcropping, Cliff Shelf, and the path leading to it are part of the Cliff Shelf trail.)
