I nearly stepped on this Northwestern garter snake.
[Partially curved snake in the grass about 3 feet long with a red stripe running the length of its back between two black ones.]

Cape Blanco lighthouse
[Light is lit at this red-capped white lighthouse with an attached house. I approached it from the land side so it appears to be on flat ground as the ocean is completely hidden.]

Cape Blanco north bay sea stacks
[Several photos stitched together showing the many varied-size rock outcroppings visible above the high tide water.]

Bay north of the lighthouse (This area routinely gets hurrican-force winds during the winter. Wind was probably 35-40mph when I was there.)
[Several photos stitched together expanding upon the prior image showing edges of land as well as the many white-capped waves.]

Another portion of the north bay (The strong wind helps froth the water.)
[This view continues inland from the prior image. It is also several photos stitched together with many, many white-capped waves.]

An osprey trying to make headway in more than 35 mile-per-hour winds. (It reminded me of a kite as it appeared motionless in the sky.)
[The white and brown underside feathers are visible on the partially outstretched wings of this bird in the sky. It appears the bird has its eyes closed.]

Driftwood along the bay south of the lighthouse (Notice the pick-up truck on the beach.)
[A huge (tall and wide) unbroken stretch of driftwood lies on the beach. A person with a pickup truck near it is collecting some.]

Brown pelican flying over the Pacific Ocean.
[With black-edged grey wings spread above its body, the long beak of this bird points toward the water as it scouts for its next meal.]

Another brown pelican
[This is an underside view of a pelican in flight with its wings stretched to the side. It's more of a profile shot as the sun is angled such that the bird looks nearly all dark grey.]

Brown pelican looking for its next meal.
[The wings of this bird above the sparkling water appear dappled (light and dark grey spots). The bird's long beak is clearly visible in front of its bent wings.]

Brown pelican settling in with its catch.
[Pelican swimming atop the water with the lower half of its bill completely outstretched as it appears full. Its wings are slightly outstretched as if it has just landed on the water.]

Flowers at Port Orford
[Bright pink, four-petaled blooms cascading down the overhanging stems. The blooms each have two large petals and two small petals.]

South end of Port Orford
[Two photos stitched together with grass in the foreground, a sandy beach beside it, and then the rocks sticking out of the water near the curve of rock which delineates the bay.]

Zoomed in view of left side of prior image.
[A wide sand expanse with a few huge black rocks and some people walking on the sand as the waves roll in. At the near edge is a grassy expanse while the far edge is treed. An expanse of fog partially obscures the view of the far trees.]

North end of Port Orford
[Rocks in the bay near the port off-loading structures and equipment.]

The shoreline and Pacific Ocean south of Port Orford
[Quite a few photos stitched together showing the large rocks in this expanse of water near level, grass and weed-strewn land not that far above the water line.]
