View from 800 feet above Cape Perpetua
[The edge of the stone wall of the viewing platform bisects the lower left portion of the image and the curved, rocky shoreline below is visible with fog clouds hanging above all of this. In the distance is another curve of land meeting the ocean.]

Close view of the far shore from just beyond what is in the prior image
[Behind an evergreen laden hillside in the foreground is a misty bay with two pieces of land sticking out from the mainland and between them is white-capped water.]

Zooming in on the shoreline near the visitor's center. (interesting fan-shaped waves)
[At low tide triangular shaped waves approach the irregular shaped shoreline.]

View of the low-tide shoreline
[Irregular-surfaced dark rock sits between the white-capped waves of the ocean and the greenery of the hillside just below the roadway.]

When the waves roll in, some water shoots up between small openings in the rocks creating plumes of water.
[A plume of water approximately 20-30 foot high is seen above the ground at the shoreline.]

Formation known as Devil's Churn (This low tide, calm-weather view isn't too churny.)
[A thin, triangular opening into the land surrounded by green hillsides.]

Watch the image to see the water splash between the rocks.
[Two images linked in sequence to show the water jumping up the rock then back down again.]

Looking down on Devil's Churn and the path to it.
[A small jut of land with a zig-zag path to the bottom of the hill where the ocean water goes into a narrow inlet. It's low tide so dark-colored land at the bottom of the green hillside is visible.]

A footbridge on the path to see Giant Spruce
[Towering spruce trees dominate the scene drawing attention away from the seemingly small bridge at the very bottom of the image.]

Giant Sitka Spruce is to the left of the sign. It is 15 feet thick, approximately 500 years old, and was 225 feet tall before a storm knocked off the top 35 feet.
[Several photos stitched vertically centered on Giant Spruce. A sign describing the tree is just in front of it.]

Steps beside Giant Spruce
[Approximately 20 concrete steps on the hillside beside Giant Spruce.]

Opening under Giant Spruce
[Hollow section under the tree where a 'nursemaid' tree once sat under the tree. Several people could easily sit in this opening at the base of the tree.]

Lots of moss grows on the trees near the ocean. Saw this tree on the trail to Giant Spruce.
[Moss hanging several inches long from nearly all the limbs of a spruce tree like the skirt hanging from a dancer swaying with wind movement.]

Flowers with an insect seen on the Whispering Spruce trail.
[Two white six-petaled flowers shaped like a cup with the yellow centers as the 'bottom' of the cup. A yellow and black striped insect sits at the center of one.]

More flowers near the Whispering Spruce trail
[A long, skinny, curved stem out of which nearly a dozen purple blooms have burst. This stem and another nearby are clearly in focus while the background in blurred.]

An interesting bloom near the Whispering Spruce trail
[A purple bloom with six long thin petals with yellow outer base is beside a blooms which has yet to open. Both are amid long thin grasses.]

Berries along the Whispering Spruce trail
[Amid green oval leaves are black berries with some red short leaves or petals around each berry.]
