Helena, Montana
August 1 and 3, 2006

South of Helena on Route 12
[Several photos stitched together giving a panoramic view of the mountains and valleys. Evergreens cover most of the mountains while the valleys are light brown and have little vegetation.]

Lawrence Street in Helena
[Looking down Lawrence Street which is lined with trees on either side. It goes down a slight hill then upward. In the distance not far from the city is a tall mostly evergreen covered mountain.]

Statues on the exterior of Cathedral of St. Helena
[Statues which appear to be carved into the building of three tall thin men with a column between each of them. The one on the far left is clean shaven, the middle one has a small beard and the one on the right seems to have a long beard. All three appear to be holding their clothing capes closed.]

Spire on Cathedral of St. Helena
[It appears the top level of this spire has a bell. That level is open to the outside while the lower levels are close and appear to have stained windows. At the top of the spire's conical roof has a stone cross.]

Interior of Cathedral of St. Helena
[A very ornate interior with marble columns and gold in the many arches. There are stained glass windows both behind the altar and on the second level above it. Gold chandeliers hang from the ceiling.]

Some of the many stained glass windows inside Cathedral of St. Helena
[Looking up at the stained glass panels on the second level. There are three panels under each arch depicting a scene. One of the gold chandeliers hanging from the ceiling is visible on the side.]

Another window inside the church
[This window has four panes with a rose-like section above the panels and fitting into the arch.]

And another window inside the church
[This three panel window has a man traveling on a horse with others around him on foot. There is a man in the sky in robes. The words at the bottom of the window are, 'In thy see shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.']

Sculpture outside the Montana Historical Museum
[The all-black statue sits on a stone wall. It is of a man on a bucking bronco with one hand holding the rope and the other in the air. There's a parking lot behind the wall and it's filled with vehicles.]

Motoring between Helena and Great Falls, Montana
August 1, 2006

Missouri River south of Great Falls
[Missouri River winding through the mountains from the back right to the left. There is some river level ground around the river, so it's not as if the river carved a canyon out of the rocks.]

Rock cropping south of Great Falls
[It appears part of the stone near the top edge of a large rock outcropping has split. While this entire rock scene is mostly brown, there are a few evergreens growing on it. There is a roadway at the bottom of the rock.]

More rocky scenery
[Rolling rock dotted with numerous evergreens, but only in a few places are they so thick one can not seen the rock. The evergreens are a bright splotch of color on the tan rock.]

Great Falls, Montana
August 2-3, 2006

Portage display at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center (One can not row up a waterfall, hence the need for portaging.)
[A diorama showing a long canoe-like boat with wheels in front and back and two men, one on each side, pulling a rope to roll the canoe up the hill.]

Sand art at Montana State Fair
[Part of the sculpture is complete and has a big 75 and a star with the shape of Montana in it. A ribbon below that says Montana State Fair. A man is working on the sculpture to add people in front of it.]

Black Eagle Falls viewed from atop the hillside downstream.
[The dam is a curved shape across the river. Downstream of the dam is a lot of rock sticking out of the water and creating several falls after the falls of the dam.]

Black Eagle Falls from ground level
[View of the falls from the ground just below the falls and thus looking straight at the waterfalls created by the rock.]
