Access to the Battery Point lighthouse in the morning at low tide
[The two story lighthouse sits on a small land mass which becomes an island during higher tides. At low tide there is a pathway across the land to the mainland. A paved drive comes down the island to the approximate point of the high tide.]

Access to the lighthouse later in the day at high tide (The caretakers living at the lighthouse know the tide tables!)
[Most of the paved drive can be seen in this image, however it now leads straight to water. The lighthouse looks as if it sits on an island as 200 horizontal feet of water separate it from the mainland.]

On the island looking down the access ramp. (The little blue dots in the center are the jackets of the two people who just crossed the rock portion.)
[There are several overhead wires from the mainland to the island sloping upward above the top of the photo. The paved ramp has rocks on either side and rocks from the end of the ramp to the mainland. Two people at the very bottom of the ramp are only visible because their brightly colored clothing constrasts with the brown and black of the rocks and pavement.]

Battery Point Lighthouse, built in 1856, is currently in use as a private aid to navigation and was undergoing railing maintenance at the top level.
[The two-level tower sits above a white-washed, red-roofed single-story building at the top of the hill.]

The fourth-order Fresnel lens does light. Each beveled edge is a separate piece of hand-crafted glass.
[Sitting within a metal framing are more than a dozen pieces of beveled edge glass within which sits the light. This image is an animated gif of two images which alternate between the light being on and off.]

These man-made concrete forms called doloes help break the force of the water during the winter storms protecting the breakwater and the harbor.
[Small conical shaped pieces of concrete cover nearly all the edges of the rock thrust out into the harbor.]

I refer to this as sea salad. It lies on the walkway between the mainland and the lighthouse at low tide.
[Among the large and small smooth edged rocks is vegetation of varying colors which the ocean deposited here at high tide.]

Interesting veins on this flower
[Sticking up from a pink base are two white lace-like petals with veins of purple through them. A fully opened bloom below it has four petals which are mostly white, but have outer edges with a pink tone. Yellow stamen stick out of the middle.]

These brown pelicans are flying away from the camera.
[Six pelicans of which three are in a downward sloping line formation and the other three are above them nearly atop each other.]

Tree moss at the shore
[Thick hunks of light-colored moss hang from the branches of a spruce tree.]

Crescent Beach Overlook - Crescent City, California

The crescent of Crescent City
[Several photos stitched together showing the extension of the land into the ocean in the far distance and the land hooking back around to the right to near where the photo was taken. The image is mostly water as the waves come to shore at low tide.]

Crescent City beach at low tide
[The land which meets the beach rises in short cliffs above it. These cliffs have grassy and tree'd tops. Mountains are seen in the hazy distance while reaches of water lap the sand below the cliffs.]

Battery Point Lighthouse
[The two-story house with the lighthouse on the third level sits on an island with one tree higher than the house and several rock hills higher than the house. The sky is clear with only some wisps of clouds in the distance.]

St. George Reef lighthouse sits on an island six miles from the coast.
[While the seastack in the foreground are pretty clear in detail, the distance to the lighthouse means the outline edges are softer. However, the skies are clear, so the rock and the round base on which the lighthouse sits are visible.]

The St. George Reef lighthouse is on the horizon in the center-right of the image while the Battery Point lighhouse is the white building on the far right.
[Two photos stitched together to create a landscape image of the ocean with the St. George Reef lighthouse in the middle of the water in the distance and expanses of rocks jutting from the foreground water. The Battery Point lighthouse at the far right is near the beachhead which is not visible on this image.]
