Jed Smith State Park - Crescent City, California
July 26, 2012

These two trees (labeled below the trunks) were planted at the same time. The giant sequoia will eventually live longer and grow bigger in diameter (but not height).
[To the left of the rest rooms building is a Coast Redwood which is at least four times as high as the building. To the right of the building is a Sequoia which is about twice the height of the building. Lots of trees are growing behind these two so I added the name of each tree below its trunk.]

View from the visitor center parking lot ("Regular" size trees are in the front while Coast Redwoods and Sitka Spruces stand behind them.)
[The Coast Redwoods are twice as high as the trees immediately adjacent to the parking lot. I stitched together several photos to create this panoramic view.]

The needles of a Coast Redwood
The needles of this tree are short and lightweight (feathery like) and the edges are a much lighter green than those closest to the main stem.]

False Klamath, California

False Klamath Cove
[Looking out at two u-shaped coves with what appears to be more in the distant haze. The foreground has low vegetation and rocks, but tehre are some larger evergreens further down the hill.]

View from Klamath River Overlook high above the Pacific Ocean
[White-capped Pacific water meets the narrow sandy beach. The edge of the land meanders here so a cove of sorts puts water behind the tree'd land which meets the sand. The cove is misted as are the mountains near it.]

Tree at water's edge seen from Klamath River Overlook.
[Short, thick trunks lead to bush-like top branches of this tree which has the Pacific Ocean as its backdrop.]

Yurok Loop Trail - Orick, California
July 26, 2012

Shoreline near the Yurok Loop Trail
[A small cover with lots of frothy whitewater atop the waves coming to shore. There are hills around the cove and the tops of some of them are completely covered in clouds as the fog has yet to burn off in those sections. There is a small dirt beach visible.]

A field of daisies on the Yurok Loop Trail
[A sea of whiteness interspersed with stems and yellow dots(center of flowers). This is more of a side view of the daisy field.]

Another view of the daisy field
[This is a view looking down at the blooms so the individual flowers are much more distinct and the stems appear greener white the petals appear whiter.]

Stellers Jay
[A blue bird with a brown head and neck is standing in the grass with its head bent toward the ground.]

Trinidad and McKinleyville, California
December 9, 2012

Trees at the rest stop on US-101 north of Trinidad Head
[The tops of the trees are not even visible because they are so high. The trunks seem to go up for at least 30 or more feet before branches are visible on these redwoods. There are some other trees with lower level greenery and the setting sun through the trees gives lots of color contrasts in the image.]

Sun setting over the Pacific Ocean seen from the rest stop on US-101 north of Trinidad Head.
[The hazy water's edge (and a rock in the water) are visible through an opening in the evergreen trees. The trees appear nearly black due to the bright light of the sun.]

Roosevelt elk by Stone Lagoon RV Park (Trinidad, California)
[A herd of females grazes on an open patch of grass.]

Tide pools near McKinleyville, California
[Tidepools are well back from the water's edge. Land is seen beyond the water on the right.]

Continue to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. (page 5 of 8)
