Swamp with cypress trees
[Watery ground out of which rises numerous tree trunks.]

Cypress knees
[Close focus of three short, thick shoots rising from the swamp water.]

Different area of the swamp
[Watery ground out of which rises numerous cypress knees as well as tree trunks.]

One of the former irrigation canals
[Looking through vegetation down a wide canal with overgrown vegetation at edges and trees a bit back from that.]

Another former irrigation canal
[Except that both the water level and the banks are shallow, this would appear to be a stream through trees.]

Another part of the former irrigation system
[Looking out from trees into an open field where water which is plentiful near the trees disappears into the fields.]

Red oak with its spring blossoms
[Large, mature tree with a silvery bark, dark-red leafy-like blossoms, and reddish leaves.]

Former rice fields
[Looking out at alternating rows of water and vegetation toward a distant flat landscape.]

Spider web in the swamp
[A spider web as seen from a side angle suspended between two branches of vegetation growing out of the swamp.]

This pied-billed grebe was suspicious of me even from a distance.
[Small bird swimming in the canal with its arched neck and head reflected in the water.]

Double-crested cormorant resting in a tree.
[Shadowy outline of a bird in a tree against a very blue sky with white puffy clouds in the background.]

I jumped back when I saw these crawl out of the canal water.
[Two mutant-looking, space-alien-like critters.]

Shallow tree roots on the trail
[Dirt with irregular, partially exposed roots.]

Tree moss dancing in the breeze.
[Tree trunk and branches hidden by long strands of tan moss interspersed among the tree leaves.]

Yellow Jessamine is the South Carolina state flower.
[This vine with a profusion of flowers all along it is growing along the branches of a leafless tree, so it looks like this plant with its leaves and flowers is the tree.]
