Nebraska - August 7, 2007

Scotts Bluff in western Nebraska was a major landmark on the wagon trails heading west.

The top of the pipe rising above the bluff was level with the top of the rock surface in 1933. Over time, weather is eroding the sandstone bluff.
[At the bottom of the image is the top edge of the sign labeled Eroding Landmark. Across the way is the top of the bluff with a cylindrical metal pipe sticking out from the top of the rock by probably at least a foot.]

Chimney Rock, east of Scottsbluff, was another major landmark on the wagon trails heading west.
