Glacier National Park - West Glacier, Montana
September 19-21, 2006

Snowcapped peaks seen from Avalanche Lake trail. (It was raining which made for a lot of foggy views.)
[Looking through an opening between some evergreens, the far hillsides are mostly foggy, but a little bit of snow dusts the rocks of the mountain.]

Avalanche Creek just before the falls
[This creek changes direction in a zig zag pattern between multiple large boulders. Lots of whitewater generated and lots of greenery on the sides. ]

Avalanche Falls
[Through a small thin canyon composed of red rock, the water drops several times with pooling sections between the drops. Lots of whitewater and lots of greenery on the tops of the rocks.]

Avalanche Lake
[Lots of stones near the shore and stones amid the lake as if the water levels may be lower than maximum. On the far shore are evergreens and the lower edge of what appears to be a large steep mountain.]

A little deeper section Avalanche Lake with downed logs in it
[The evergreens on the far shore are reflected in the water at that edge. On the near side the water has some tree stumps above the water line and lots of visible long wood poles resting on the bottom of the lake.]

A view on Going to the Sun Road while heading up the mountain to Logan Pass
[Part of a white car is visible at the right edge of the photo. The large stones marking the edge of the pull-off become a guard rail just a short distance down the road. The rock face is near vertical and very segmented. The distance air and mountains are shrouded in fog. ]

Another view on the way up to Logan Pass (We drove up into the clouds!)
A view of the sloped hillside covered in a plethora of gren of multiple types of trees. No sky is visible as it is completely white cloud covered. Portions of the trees are also blocked by the white.]

The change in elevation meant the rain became snow as we drove. Here is the snow line.
[A section of green trees and grass meet trees and shrubbery coated with white. The entire upper left of the image is completely white due to the snow coming down.]

Fresh people tracks on Logan Pass Hidden Lake Nature trail
[A paved walking trail is white and completely covered with snow except where two sets of boot tracks have just traveled the path. The ground on either side of the path is dusted with thick snow but the vegetation is visible.]

A park ranger said these tracks (center and left) looked like they were made by a wolverine.
[A patch of snow with two small skinny tracks on the far right. The two round tracks with five pads and two claws at the top are in the center and then two more a little wider apart are at the top right of the image as the animal must have changed directions while moving.]

Sacred Dancing Cascade in McDonald Creek
[After a wide flat section of rocks the water flows down a several step series of rock before making a a sharp left-hand turn. Through all that rock and turns a lot of whitewater is visible. There are tall trees surrounding the edges of the flat section and the falls section.]

Metallic-looking stone in McDonald Creek
[The wet stone across which the water flows and falls is a light silver color.]

Moss in the trees near McDonald Creek
[Hanging from evergreen branches with no greenery on them are long stringy sections of light-green moss.]
