Rest stop on Great River Road north of Dubuque, Iowa (There are many islands in the river.)
[A single bloom with pink-purple petals hanging straight down from a triangular-shaA view from above looking down the hillside to the Mississippi River. Not much water is seen on one side due to a large, heavily-treed island.]

Mississippi River south of Dubuque looking north towards Dubuque.
[A view of the river and islands in it from a vantage point just a bit higher than the river level. The many buildings of the city can be seen in the distant shore.]

[Looking toward river with overcast skies making the distant bluffs misty looking as well as giving a dark cast to the water and trees on the shore and island. A dock floats just off the shoreline of the island.]

Julien Dubuque Monument beneath which he is buried (at one of his favorite spots overlooking the river).
[A series of stone steps lead up to a circular stone tower which resembles a corner turrent of a medieval castle only this stone is light-colored.]

These wild tiger lilies were growing at the edge of a dirt parking lot on the grounds.
[These fully opened lilies (petals are curved back from the stamen) are bright orange-red with speckles on the inner edges of the petals.]

Saw this tiny Tawny Crescent butterfly in the same parking lot.
[Yellow butterfly with dark brown edges standing on a rock in the dirt parking lot.]
