Indian Pipe flowers on the Ly-co-ke-wi Trail
[This plant is all white-grey including its stem and leaves. At the top of the stem is the flower which is like an open tube with curled petals forming the tube. There are white stamen in the middle.]

Interesting color mushroom on the Ly-co-ke-wi Trail
[The mushroom has a wide stem with a large but thin cap on it. The color is a pinkish purple with lighter color at the edges of the cap.]

A baby sassafrass tree on the Ly-co-ke-wi Trail
[The tree has about five leaves and is probably about six inches tall. The leaves resemble a mitten with two thumbs, one on each side.]

This appears to be some type of wild sunflower (on the Ly-co-ke-wi Trail).
[The bloom has nine thin yellow petals radiating from a center with yellow topped brown stamen.]

Monarch butterfly at Ly-co-ke-wi Trail parking lot
[Orange butterfly with black veins throughout and white spots at the edge of its wings sitting on an evergreen branch.]

Black swallowtail butterfly on the trail around Mount Baldy
[Brown butterfly with yellow and blue dots hanging on to the edge of a few remaining petals of a flower.]

Beautiful blooms on the trail around Mount Baldy
[Five petal blooms in shade of white and lilac with yellow-tipped white stamen. The petals rest against the stem before they move up like the opening of an umbrella.]

Carolina Horse Nettle on the trail around Mount Baldy
[Thick yellow stamen stick out from the center of these blooms which mostly have their petals folded back toward the stem. The petals are mostly white but with some green stripes on the outer side. The blooms are at the top of the plant with its many leaves showing.]

Bergamot on the trail around Mount Baldy
[The blooms have thin spikey lilac-colored petals rising around a wide pincushion-like middle.]

Wild Comfrey on the trail around Mount Baldy
[Small tiny white blooms each with five wide petals and a yellow center. The blooms are in clumps at the top of stems above the leaves.]

Lake Michigan with Chicago haze above it in the distance seen from Mount Baldy.
[View of the lake shore as seen from above. The hillside with plenty of green vegetation is in the foreground and several people are on the beach in the mid-ground. The lake with the Chicago haze above it is in the background.]

Chicago buildings are visible if you look closely.
[A lake view with four very tall buildings and a number of smaller ones visible behind the haze at the water's surface.]

Lake Michigan shore near Mount Baldy
[View of the beach while standing on it looking down the length of it. The hillside is to the left and the lake to the right.]

Although there's lots of sand, the lake washes up lots of small stones near Mount Baldy.
[Rows of stones the waves have washed to the shore. Sand on left, stone piles in middle, waves on right.]

Lighthouse of nearby town near Mount Baldy
[Small lighthouse is left-center of photo in the water with a quay across the waterleading to it from the right. On the left of the lighthouse are several boats in the water.]

Mount Baldy is a living, 126-foot-tall dune which continues to move a bit inland each year.
[Several photos stitched together depicting the top of the dune. Sand as far as the eye can see. In the center is a fence to deter shifting sand. Several trees are atop the dune. The lake can be seen off in the distance to the left.]

Looking down at the Lake Michigan shoreline, this image give a little better indication of the height of Mount Baldy.
[The sand path to the shoreline is a switchback to make it less steep. Poles mark the path and there is vegetation growing outside of the path. In the far distance on the water is the lighthouse and a moving boat.]
