Bald eagles at Lake Coeur d'Alene - Couer d'Alene, Idaho
The eagles come to the lake for a few weeks each winter to feeding on the spawning salmon.

Eagle coming in to land on the treetop.
[The underside of an eagle with its wings fully outstretched as it comes in close to a tree.]

Eagles perched on a dead tree near the edge of the lake scanning the water for their next meal.
[On a dead tree trunk, one eagle is at the top facing one direction and another eagle is a few feet below facing a slightly different direction. The direction of the sun is such that the birds are mostly just sillouettes.]

Eagle with its landing gear at the ready
[Eagle is close to the top of a tree and has its feet outstretched for the landing. ]

One of the many birds I saw.

Ironman Triathlon - Couer d'Alene, Idaho
June 25, 2006 and June 22, 2008

All the bikes ready and waiting the day before the race starts. (2006)
[More than a thousand racing bike in multiple rows inches apart from each other by and under trees. Some of the bikes have plastic bags near their handlebars.]

Professional athletes began swimming before the rest of the pack. (2008)
[About a dozen people are in a line of splashing water as a kayaker sits in the background.]

The professionals are returning from their swim as the age-group participants prepare for their swim. (2008)
[There is still a line of splashes in the water, but the shoreline with wall-to-wall people in black wetsuits and pink caps stand and watch.]

The age-group participants start their race. (2008)
[There is a wide swatch of swimmers from the shore to quite a ways out in the water. Lots of color and flying water in the lake with the tall trees on shore catching the morning sun.]

The red flags mark the turning points for the swimmers to head back to shore. The boats are part of the safety brigade. (2008)
[This is quite a ways into the lake so the swimmers are more of a thin line along the route as the faster ones have pulled ahead. There are more than a half-dozen boats at points along the route.]

Athletes who can not see are permitted to have a guide-athlete like this cyclist does. (2008)
[Two bikes are heading down the road to the left. One bike has a cyclist with a yellow shirt. The other bike is one with two sets of pedals and two riders. Both bikes are a bit blurred in the image as they zipped along.]

Racers are heading uphill (on the right side of the cones) as they do the marathon course. (2006)
[A two-lane road with double yellow lines in the center has orange cones in the center and along both sides. Plenty of spectators behind the cones are encouraging the few runners currently at this point of the race.]
